The M-QT4 safety light curtain is an infrared-based, optoelectronic safety sensor. Its function is to monitor access to the hazardous work area of a machine, such as a press, guillotine, or industrial robot. As soon as the light beam is interrupted by an intruder (e.g., the operator's hand), the system immediately sends a signal to the machine controller, causing it to stop or enter a safe state.
The M-QT4 series is designed in accordance with stringent standards and is Category 4 (PL d) according to the PN-EN ISO 13849-1 standard and Type 4 according to the IEC 61496-1/2 standard. This means it is a highly reliable system, designed to withstand faults and fault cascades. This guarantees the highest level of protection even in the event of a single internal fault.
High reliability (Category 4, PL d): Ensures the safety system will always operate when needed.
Fast response time: Minimizes the machine's braking distance, increasing operator safety.
Universal application: Suitable for presses, guillotines, robots, palletizers, and many other machines.
Easy installation and configuration: Allows for quick and seamless integration into existing production lines.
Compatibility: Compatible with a wide range of safety relays.
One of the most innovative features of the M-QT4 series is the EDM (External Device Monitoring) function, which allows monitoring of an external device.
What is the EDM function?
In traditional systems, the safety light curtain is only responsible for monitoring its detection zone. The EDM function in the M-QT4 light curtain goes a step further. It allows for continuous monitoring of the status of external safety switches, such as emergency buttons, interlocked limit switches, or even... a second safety light curtain.
1. Continuous system integrity check: EDM constantly checks for damage to external safety devices connected to it (e.g., shorted emergency button contacts). If a fault is detected, the system can immediately respond, preventing the machine from starting and alerting the operator.
2. Hidden error prevention: This function detects so-called "hidden faults" that would normally go unnoticed until an attempt is made to use the damaged device. Thanks to EDM, potentially dangerous situations are identified in advance.
3. Reduced downtime: By detecting faults at an early stage, EDM allows for planned repairs instead of sudden, costly downtime caused by a failure during production. 4. Simplified installation: This often allows for a reduction in the number of additional monitoring modules, simplifying wiring and lowering the cost of the entire safety system.
The M-QT4 series is used wherever a designated and protected hazardous area is necessary:
· Hydraulic and mechanical presses
· Sheet metal shears
· Industrial robots and their work cells
· Packaging and palletizing machines
· Woodworking machines
· Gates and entrances to automated production lines
The M-QT4 series safety light curtain from Morkom is not just a passive sensor, but an active and intelligent component of the machine's safety system. Thanks to its integration with the EDM function, it not only ensures the highest level of personal protection but also ensures the reliability of the entire production process, minimizing the risk of unplanned downtime. It's an investment in safety that pays off – both for the operator and the operator. from the perspective of both human health protection and the economic efficiency of the plant.
